Keeper out and Carlos waits over skipper

Keiren Westwood is again ruled out through injury and skipper Glenn Loovens is a big doubt as the Owls prepare for the short trip to face Leeds tomorrow.

Westwood is still struggling with the kidney problem which forced him off at Ipswich last Saturday while Loovens was substituted in the second-half of the disappointing midweek draw with Reading after suffering an ankle injury.

Lucas Joao was also struggling with a leg problem picked up in the first half against Reading but played on for the full 90 minutes and Atdhe Nuhiu was ruled out before kick off with a neck injury.

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal said earlier today: “We are training this afternoon. We don’t know yet which players are 100 per cent, We will play with the players who are 100 per cent ready to start the game. We don’t want players who are 99 per cent ready to play.”

Lewis Price, who made a shaky first competitive start for Wednesday against Reading, is likely to continue to deputise for Westwood, while Vincent Sasso would be expected to replace Loovens – as he did on Wednesday night – if the skipper is declared unfit.

In addition, Carvalhal will probably be tempted to give a start to midweek goalscorer Modou Sougou, who added much-needed pace and aggression to our forward play when he came on during the second half.

The head coach could also recall Kieren Lee, who has come on as a sub in the last two games, to bring greater tempo and edge to a midfield that has looked largely one paced and has struggled to come to terms with the competitiveness of the Championship in the Ipswich and Reading matches,
