‘We played as a team and deserved to win’ says upbeat Rohl

Danny Rohl said he took plenty of positives from today’s 1-1 home draw with QPR … despite seeing Wednesday take a 93rd minute lead only to concede an equaliser three minutes later.

The Owls boss said: “It’s hard to take but a step in the right direction. I am proud of my team, we gave an excellent performance, the best since the first day against Plymouth.

“I think we deserved to win because we dominated a lot of the game. But this is football.”

On QPR’s leveller, Rohl commented: “Firstly, there was a clear foul on Musaba but it was not given. Then we give away an easy foul, we cannot do this. We needed to stay behind the opponent, then he cannot turn and nothing happens.

“From the free kick comes the corner. We defended the first ball but then we cannot kick it out because there was a lot of traffic around us and they score.”

On the overall display, he added: “It’s a pity we didn’t win but for me a it was a huge step forward. We created chances, had ball-winning situations, were much more compact, found the right balance between playing short and behind and created more energy in the stadium. This is the way we want to go.

“At Millwall I didn’t see a team. I saw just individual players but you need a team in this league and the team performance was great today.”
