Rohl: How we turned cup tie around in second half

Danny Rohl spoke of how Wednesday managed to turn a possible shock Carabao Cup exit into an emphatic 5-1 second round victory at Grimsby on Tuesday night.

The Owls looked to be lacking energy and commitment in the first half and, not surprisingly, trailed 1-0 at the interval after failing to get a shot on target against second division opposition.

Manager Rohl made two substitutions at the break and then introduced Barry Bannan and Josh Windass just after the hour as the Owls romped away with the tie, saying afterwards: “At half time we spoke about what we needed to improve, especially the speed of our game which was much better in the second half.

“After the break, we played more where we wanted to play, found our space and in one-on-one situations.

“I showed them some clips at half time, showing which spaces and players we had to attack … and we did this well.

“It’s the first time we have turned a game around since I have been here and we this good feeling we go to Millwall on Saturday.”
