Promotion rivals close gap at top of the table

Promotion rivals Plymouth and Ipswich both kept up the pressure on leaders Wednesday at the top of the division one table with victories this evening.

The Pilgrims came back from behind to defeat Derby 2-1 at Home Park while the Tractor Boys were comfortable 3-0 winners over struggling Accrington at Portman Road.

It means that second-placed Plymouth draw level with us on 74 points but we now have two games in hand on them, along with a superior goal difference, while Ipswich in third closed the gap to five points behind the Owls but also having played two more matches than us.

Barnsley moved up to fourth place tonight after a 3-1 win over Portsmouth, trailing Ipswich by six points and with two games in hand on them.
