Owls face possible selection problems ahead of TV clash

Wednesday could be missing key players for Friday night’s televised clash with Sunderland at Hillsborough.

Danny Rohl told Thursday’s pre-match press conference that Michael Smith, who had to pull out of his planned player interview through illness, may be ruled out. The manager didn’t want to speak about other possible absentees by name but continued: “We have three of four big question marks ahead of the game. I can just say that it’s been a tough week for us and there could be players missing.

“We have to find solutions but I am convinced the team on the pitch will be on fire.”

Only one win in the last five league games has seen us slip back to 13th in the table in our play-off bid but we know that victory over Sunderland would lift us back up to joint ninth and three points from sixth … ahead of the rest of the weekend Championship action.

Rohl said we haven’t got the points our performances deserved in recent games, adding: “This week, we have cleaned our minds and we are ready to go again, we look forward.

“We know what we have to do and if we perform like we have in the last few weeks I believe the results will come again.”

The game is on Sky Sports and kicks off at 8pm.
