Owls duo win promotion … Beadle in England action

Brothers Pierce and Shea Charles helped Northern Ireland secure promotion to the Nations League B after a 2-2 draw in Luxembourg this evening.

They led 2-0 before being pegged back level by the home side in the second half but held out for the draw to finish top of their Nations League C group and move up automatically to the next level.

Shea Charles was skipper again on the evening and it was the Wednesday loanee who created the opportunity for Isaac Price to put Northern Ireland one-up in the first half.

While Pierce Charles was in goal for Northern Ireland, Wednesday’s first choice keeper James Beadle was in action for the England under-21s tonight in an away friendly against the Netherlands.

Tottenham’s Dane Scarlett, currently on loan at Oxford United, put England’s Young Lions ahead after just five minutes but the Dutch side levelled in the 83rd minute and only some fine late saves from Beadle denied them a winner.

Wednesday’s young defender, Gabriel Otegbayo, was an unused sub for the Republic of Ireland under-21s in the second part of their friendly double header with Sweden in Marbella on Sunday.

Having lost the first game 2-0 on Thursday, the Republic squared matters with a 3-2 victory in the return game.
