Moore hails resilience of his Wednesday players

Darren Moore saluted his Wednesday side for showing ‘the ugly parts of their game’ in the 1-0 win at Port Vale this afternoon.

A heavily sanded pitch ruled out a free-flowing game of football, the Owls having to battle for the points and Moore said afterwards: “We built on last week’s win against Wycombe win today by being dogged, by being resilient, by doing stuff in parts of the game we associate as being the ugly parts of the game. The boys did all of that today.

“We spoke at half-time about starting the game solid and keeping that solidity. We had to keep to that and maintain it and we needed everyone to do their jobs.

“Sometimes you have to dig in, be dogged, you have to fight and I think the boys did that today. At times, when we had to put our foot on the ball, we did. I am pleased to get the three points today.”

Lee Gregory missed the game after “picking up a niggle” in training on Friday while George Byers continued to be sidelined with his foot injury, Moore saying that both players will be assessed on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s top-of-the-table clash at leaders Plymouth.
