Wednesday lost our place at the head of League One in another disappointing home performance which saw us held 0-0 by Stockport this afternoon.

Bradford City’s win at Luton takes them top on 15 points, one ahead of Wednesday, and we rarely looked like registering a victory against a Stockport side who showed superior teamwork and might well have run out winners.

The visitors should have gone ahead early on when Harry Wood fired over the bar from eight yards and we were fortunate again on 18 minutes when Ryan Glover’s header came back off the post, Jack Diamond seeing his follow-up steered away by Ricardo Santos.

In a disjointed first-half display from the Owls, our only effort on goal came six minutes before the break but Mason Burstow’s header was easily gathered by keeper Oliver Whatmuff.

Wednesday came out stronger after the interval and went close to an early opener when Davis Keillor-Dunn turned the ball goalwards from a tight angle but it fell just behind Burstow as he tried to turn home from almost on the line.

The introduction of Harry Gray on 55 minutes stretched Stockport down our left but, by and large, we still lacked creativity and an attacking cutting edge and it was the visitors who again went closest to taking all three points.

Oliver Norwood sent a 20-yard free kick just over the bar midway through the half and Glover went close with a late header, leaving Wednesday fans reflecting on a second successive goalless home draw as we go into a three-week international break in our league programme in second place in the table.
