Carlos salutes revitalised Forestieri

Carlos Carvalhal was full of praise for Fernando Forestieri after seeing the revitalised striker inspire Wednesday to a deserved 2-0 win at Wolves.

Forestieri scored the opening goal from the penalty spot, helped create the second for Kieran Lee and was at the heart of most of Wednesday’s threatening moments.

The striker had been well below par in recent games until last week’s display at Fulham and, after his latest performance at Molineux, Carvalhal said: “I told Fernando that he is back again. He performed very well against Fulham in the last game and he again did very well today. It is the Fernando we know and recognise and that the coaches and fans like.

“Wolves had new energy because they had changed the coach and it was his first home game and that made them tougher to play against.

“But I think we were ready for this environment and we did well. We got the first goal and deserved it and we had more chances.”

He added: “The second goal made a big difference for us today.

“We played very well, but there have been other games this season where we have played better and not scored the second goal, so it is important that we did this today.”

Carvalhal also praised the team’s defensive display – from attackers to midfield to the back line – and said: “We are in a good way and playing very well, we have improved our efficiency and I hope this continues for the rest of the season.”
