Young midfielder Jarvis Thornton has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

He joined the youth academy aged eight years old and has worked his way through the ranks, making his senior debut against Bolton in the Carabao Cup a year ago and going on to earn further first team appearances during the season.

The 20-year-old said: “I’m really pleased. I’ve been here such a long time, coming through all the ranks, and then last year was a lot better for me personally, playing a lot of games in the first team.

“Playing at Championship level made me ten times a better player on and off the pitch as well, a better professional, and I grew up quicker than I expected. Hopefully, I can kick on this year and do some good things for the club.”

We are in Group A of the Northern section, along with Accrington Stanley, Salford City and Sunderland under-21s and each team plays three group matches, two at home and one away.

Our fixtures are September 22, Salford (a); October 6, Sunderland under-21s (h); November 10, Accrington Stanley (h) and all with a 7pm kick off.
