Windass on target again as Owls ease to two-goal win

Wednesday registered a first pre-season win of the campaign with a 2-0 success at National League North side Chester this afternoon.

A goal in each half sealed the victory in a game which saw a debut for new signing and former Everton midfielder Dennis Adeniran. He played the first 45 minutes before Darren Moore made 10 changes at the break, as the manager did against Celtic in midweek.

Callum Paterson missed an early chance for the Owls and Andre Green headed wide when well placed as we made most of the running in the opening spell.

On 17 minutes, Josh Windass beat home keeper Louis Gray in a race for a through ball wide on the left flank but saw his angled effort cleared off the line by Danny Livesey.

However, there was no stopping Windass 12 minutes later when he fired home in style to put Wednesday into the lead with his second pre-season goal and Barry Bannan saw his effort hit the bar as we pushed for a second goal before the break.

Then came Moore’s wholesale half-time changes and we doubled our lead seven minutes into the second period, Korede Adedoyin turning to shoot home from inside the box.

Chester caused both keepers, Cameron Dawson and Joe Wildsmith, few problems and Alex Hunt went close to making it 3-0 eight minutes from time when his long-ranger struck a post.
