Wednesday are awaiting the result of a Football Association investigation following the ugly on-the-pitch scenes at the end of Tuesday evening’s pre-season friendly at Mansfield.
Several players from both sides were involved in a mass brawl after the final whistle and the FA has confirmed it is looking into the incident.
There had been a flashpoint minutes earlier when Fernando Forestieri fouled former Owls youngster, Hayden White, and Mansfield players reacted angrily to the tackle, with Forestieri being pushed to the ground.
Then came the punch-up between rival players at the end of the game, with coaching staff from both clubs – along with stewards – racing onto the pitch to try to intervene.
Owls boss, Jos Luhukay, said after the game: “I’ve never seen anything like that before in a friendly. I did not see what the reason was or why it turned into an explosion.
“I will speak to my players about what happened.”
