‘We showed spirit, character and belief and could have won game’

Darren Moore praised the fighting spirit of his Wednesday side after they battled back from 2-0 down to earn a point at Cheltenham in the final 15 minutes.

Speaking after the draw which keeps us firmly in the automatic promotion chase, Moore said: “We came here to win the game and on the balance of play and chances we felt we probably outshaded them but just didn’t get the right touch on the ball at times.

“To go 2-0 down with 18 minutes left we showed real spirit and character to try and drag the game back. When Flinty comes on and scores a goal we knew we felt on the pitch we would get the second goal. After equalising, we then felt we had enough time to probably get a winner, we had three glorious chances to get the goal and we are a bit disappointed not to get all three points.

“But the positives are that after being two down so late in the game to come back to 2-2 showed great character and belief and if you’re not going to win the game we make sure we don’t lose it.

“It’s a solid performance and certainly better than the one on Sunday. That was not acceptable and we had to respond tonight.”
