Victory would mean fourth spot for Owls

Wednesday go into Tuesday night’s game with Brentford at Hillsborough knowing that a fifth successive win would lift us from sixth place to fourth in the Championship.

Victory would take us three points ahead of fifth-placed Leeds and, with third-placed Huddersfield hosting Reading in fourth, success for ourselves will ensure we move up two places … whatever the result at the John Smith’s Stadium.

A win for us and defeat for Reading would see us move a point ahead of the Berkshire side. The same result for us and a draw at Huddersfield would mean us moving above Reading on goal difference, while victory for Reading and for ourselves would see Jaap Stam’s side up to third and us ahead of Huddersfield on goal difference.

Below us, victory against the Bees would see us open up a 10-point gap over nearest rivals, Norwich, in seventh place.

We will continue to be without Tom Lees for the Brentford game as he is still ruled out with a knee problem. Injured pair Gary Hooper and Will Buckley both played as the under-23s went down 2-1 to Crewe on Monday, Hooper lasting 65 minutes and scoring our goal while Buckley completed a 90-minute runout.

Morgan Fox is also back in full training after suffering a twisted ankle against Blackburn last week.
