Understrength Owls beaten

A second string Wednesday went down with barely a whimper at Wolves today.

Carlos Carvalhal made 10 changes, with only Lucas Joao keeping his place from last week ‘s line-up against Cardiff, and we found ourselves two-down at the break.

Michael Turner steered the ball into his own net early on and Wolves made it two on 35 minutes through George Saville.

Lewis McGugan tested keeper Carl Ikeme with a fierce free kick but, that aside, we posed few problems for the home side in the opening 45 minutes.

It was much the same story after half-time, with Wednesday rarely threatening in front of goal until the closing minutes.

McGugan pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 89th minute after Matt Doherty handled a Liam Palmer cross and we almost grabbed an unlikely equaliser when young substitute Jack Stobbs and Vincent Sasso saw efforts blocked in a last-gasp attack.
