Rohl’s retained list … Charles extends contract … Josh wins award

Danny Rohl’s plans for next season’s Wednesday squad have started to take shape with the announcement of the retained list for the 2024-25 campaign.

Barry Bannan, Cameron Dawson, Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa, Liam Palmer, Will Vaulks and Josh Windass have all been offered new contracts, while the Owls have taken up options to retain Marvin Johnson and Callum Paterson.

For Windass, the news came on the same day that his angled 35-yarder over Blackburn keeper Aynsley Pears in our crucial 3-1 win at Ewood Park won the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award for April

Back with the retained list, out-of-contract players Tyreeq Bakinson, Ciaran Brennan, George Byers, Juan Delgado, Lee Gregory and Reece James have been released, Gregory having agreed to join Mansfield Town.

At the same time, loanees James Beadle, Momo Diaby, Ashley Fletcher, Jeff Hendrick, Kristian Pedersen, Ian Poveda and Iké Ugbo will return to their parent clubs, although Rohl could try to bring Beadle back to S6 on loan while he may look to sign Poveda and Ugbo on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile. promising young keeper Pierce Charles has extended his contract with Wednesday, two years after signing his first professional deal following his graduation through the club’s academy. Charles, 18, made his senior debut against Coventry in the FA Cup last season.
