Rohl: We need to show more bravery for Ipswich game

Danny Rohl has urged his Wednesday squad to show more bravery when we travel to Ipswich tomorrow for the latest leg of our Championship ‘great escape’ bid.

After last weekend’s matches and Birmingham’s midweek home defeat to Middlesbrough, we still sit in 23rd but only one point from the current survival places and with just five points between ourselves and the next eight clubs.

Reflecting on the 2-0 defeat in our last game at home to Leeds and looking forward to the clash with promotion-chasing Ipswich, Rohl said: “We had some situations where we were not brave enough against Leeds.

“I know when you play against a strong side, you try to find a balance but I spoke with my team and said it’s about being brave, being on the front foot. We have to take this to Ipswich.

“It is always about doing everything at 100 per cent, not just staying in between, and it has been a big topic this week.

“I want to see a team at the weekend that really believe they can take something from the game.”

Team-wise, Rohl has indicated that he could well make changes for the Ipswich game and Ian Poveda is ready to return to the midfield after missing the match against his parent club, Leeds, due to the agreement under his loan.

Looking at tomorrow’s fixtures for our fellow strugglers, Huddersfield are at bottom club Rotherham, Birmingham entertain Watford, QPR travel to Sunderland, Stoke host Norwich, Blackburn are away to  Middlesbrough, Plymouth entertain Preston and Swansea have a lunchtime kick off at home to rivals Cardiff.

Then, on Sunday, Millwall make the trip to Leeds

Looking to the rest of the season, Rohl added: “We have to be ready with a good mindset and if we are brave we can achieve our goals.

“We are very close and I have the feeling that the spirit we have is what we need for the final weeks.”
