Rohl on ‘crunch time’ … a big, big win … and the task ahead

Danny Rohl called it “crunch time” in our Championship survival bid as most clubs now face 12 games left in this most competitive of divisions.

Speaking after 10-man Wednesday took three points in a 2-1 home win over Bristol City to make it three victories in four games, Rohl said: “I am convinced if we do our homework and we take the points then we have a big, big opportunity.

“We have taken three wins from four games, this is fantastic. Now it is crunch time, 12 games to go and we know the job we need to do.

“We are in a good way but there is still  a long way to go with tough, tough games to come. This league is unbelievable but we are ready for this, now we need to keep the momentum going.”

Rohl said it is also important his Wednesday squad concentrate on their own performances rather than results elsewhere after one of those afternoons of crazy results in the Championship.

While we continued our upsurge in form, relegation rivals QPR, Millwall and Huddersfield all won as well. It leaves us still in 23rd place, only three points from the safety line and with struggling Stoke now slipping into the bottom three.

Rohl said:  “We must focus on our performance. Of course, we know about the results everywhere else straightaway, but I said to the guys ‘focus on yourself, focus on yourself’.

“We have 12 finals to go and if we keep on going the way we are, we will have the best chance of staying in the Championship.

“We have won three games from four, the atmosphere is amazing, and even the game we lost at Leicester, the fans gave the players a standing ovation because they recognise what we are trying to do.”

On today’s display, Rohl said: “It was a big, big win against a strong side. Our reaction after Bristol City came back to 1-1 was key.

“My players gave everything again, the way we managed the game with 10 men was very professional and solid and made sure we took the points.”
