Rohl gets double injury boost for managerial debut

Skipper Barry Bannan and Josh Windass are fit to return to the Wednesday squad for new manager Danny Rohl’s first match in charge at Watford tomorrow.

Akin Famewo and Bambo Diaby are also back in training after injury while Devis Vasquez has linked up with the squad again after illness.

Speaking after his first week of training with the squad, Rohl said: “It’s been a really good training week and we’re looking forward to going to Watford to show what we can do on the pitch.

“I’ve spoken about our principles and the players are very open minded. The intensity has been very high and we have a good energy.”

Rohl, who was full of praise for the support he has received from Wednesday’s academy coaching team, added: “I’ve also spoken with skipper Barry about the feeling in the dressing room and it’s important you have a connection with the captain.

“I think it’s important you have a captain who you can have a link with but it’s also important to have a chat with the team and have a good relationship with them as individuals.

“As a team it was good to see how strong we can train, but the next important step is transfering it to a game

“I demand a lot from the players, not only from the legs but also the mind. We have had a meeting every day to show them what I expect. They were open minded and fresh.

“I spoke before about my dream to be a manager becoming true and I’m really happy. We’ve had a good start in training and now we go to Watford.”

We go into the game in bottom place in the Championship with just three points from 11 matches and seven points from safety.

Opponents Watford are in 20th place on 10 points.
