Owls up to tenth after another S6 win

Wednesday signed off for the international break with a fourth successive win in a trademark up-and-down performance against Preston.

Despite Carlos Carvalhal’s pre-match words of warning, we looked off the pace against lowly-placed opposition for much of the first-half and the visitors would have felt hard done by to go a goal down just before half-time when Fernando Forestieri’s neat backheel set up Kieran Lee to score from close range on his 100th appearance for the Owls.

Daniel Pudil celebrated the birth of his daughter hours earlier by netting his first goal for the club on 53 minutes to put the Owls 2-0 ahead.

However, Preston continued to cause problems and deservedly pulled a goal back 13 minutes from time through Alan Browne.

The visitors then looked the more likely to score the next goal until, deep into added time, their keeper Jason Pickford went up for a corner and, when the ball was cleared, substitute Lewis McGugan lobbed the retreating Pickford from 35 yards to seal the points and take us up to 10th place in the Championship.
