Owls take point in goalless draw

Wednesday took a well-earned point in a goalless draw at home to promotion -chasing Derby this afternoon.

The Owls had the better of the first half. with Fernando Forestieri and Barry Bannan outstanding, and Ross Wallace went closest when his 20-yard volley was tipped over by ex-Wednesday keeper Lee Grant.

Daniel Pudil fired wide when well placed 10 minutes after the break but Derby were stronger in the second period and they almost grabbed the lead on 80 minutes when Keiren Westwood handled Glenn .Loovens’ back pass and, from the resulting indirect free kick, Bradley Johnson’s fierce effort rebounded off the underside of the bar.

Wednesday continued to match their rivals but both sides failed to find that cutting edge in the final third and had to settle for a share of the points, lifting Wednesday to seventh and only out of the play-offs on goal difference.
