Wednesday have completed the emergency loan signing of keeper Ethan Horvath from Cardiff.

He joins us on a temporary deal that runs until January 2026, following the shoulder injury to Pierce Charles which left the Owls without a senior replacement and which could see Charles sidelined for a lengthy period.

Speaking about Charles’ absence, manager Henrik Pedersen said: “It’s a big loss to us … and he is likely to be out for several weeks.”

He added that it was not clear, at this stage, whether the young keeper will require surgery.

Loanee Horvath, 30, is a USA international and makes his debut at Wrexham tomorrow.

His playing experience in England began when he moved from Club Brugge in 2021 to join Nottingham Forest but made just six appearances in three years.

Horvath went out on loan to Luton in the 2022-23 season, playing 44 times in their promotion campaign to the Premier League, before signing for Cardiff in 2024 where he has so far registered 33 appearances.

We go into tomorrow’s game having lost our first two Championship fixtures, not surprising when we are having to field a team made up largely of fringe players from last season, coupled with youngsters inexperienced in the physical challenge of life in the second tier.

Newly-promoted Wrexham have also lost their first two league matches and will be without the injured ex-Owl, Josh Windass.
