Owls pegged back at Reading

Wednesday had to settle for a point at Reading today after failing to hold on to an early lead.

Gary Hooper celebrated his permanent move to Hillsborough by shooting us in front after only 10 minutes as we began the game in fine style.

However, the home side came more into the game as the half progressed and they missed a great chance to equalise from the penalty spot on 22 minutes. Glenn Loovens fouled Matej Vydra and the Reading player got up to take the resulting kick, only to see it come back off the post.

Fernando Forestieri came close to making it two on the hour mark when his effort was blocked for a corner but Reading continued to pose problems and got their equaliser through a Jake Cooper header after 73 minutes.

Wednesday, who also hit a post through Barry Bannan before Hooper’s goal, failed to match our early promise for much of the game but the point keeps us in the final play-off place in sixth position.
