Wednesday’s disappointing start to the season continued as bottom club Bolton chalked up their first league win of the season in a 2-1 defeat for the Owls.
We found ourselves two goals down just after the hour-mark, Sammy Ameobah curling home from the edge of the box after 10 minutes and then Sam Hutchinson deflecting a corner into his own net after the break.
Kieran Lee pulled a goal back on 68 minutes, turning the ball home from close range, and Wednesday could point to second-half chances from Jordan Rhodes and Lucas Joao and a late penalty appeal for a challenge on Lee that could have given a different look to the final scoreline.
However, Bolton also had their fair share of openings after the interval, with another former Wednesday man in Gary Madine missing a sitter to make it 3-0 when he hit an upright from six yards out, as we once again failed to take charge against lowly opposition.
The defeat leaves us in 12th place and four points off the play-offs
Wildsmith, Hunt, Lees, van Aken, Reach, Wallace (Rhodes 46), Jones (Hutchinson 46), Lee, Bannan, Fletcher (Joao 75), Hooper.
