New Windass injury blow as Owls eye top six

Josh Windass has been ruled out of a long-awaited return from injury as Wednesday look to move back into the play-off places at home to Cheltenham Town tomorrow.

Windass, who has missed the majority of the season, was expected to come back to the squad against the Robins but the striker suffered a setback in training this week and is unavailable.

Darren Moore confirmed the disappointing news today and added: “We had a little setback with Josh in the week in training. We are going to assess him and see over the next few days what comes back with the reports in terms of where Josh is at.”

Wednesday are already without fellow frontman Saido Berahino, who is on international duty with Burundi.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell will continue in goal before joining up with the Northern Ireland squad for their home friendly with Hungary next Tuesday while injured pair Liam Palmer and Lewis Gibson continue to be sidelined

We go into the Cheltenham game a point and one place adrift of the play-off positions and, with sixth-placed Sunderland not in action this weekend, we know that three points would lift us back into the top six.

Indeed, with all our rivals largely in impressive form, we know that we really need two wins from successive upcoming home matches to keep up our play-off challenge.
