Moore ‘running the rule’ over former Wednesday defender

Former Wednesday loanee Michael Hector has been training with the club as Darren Moore looks to bolster our defensive options during the January transfer window.

Centre back Hector had a successful season-long loan at S6 in 2018-19, making 37 appearances and winning the both the club’s and London Owls’ Player of the Year awards.

Moore said: “We’re looking at him. He’s a free agent and he’s someone who has played here before. He’s got good experience and there’s a potential platform where he can tick some of the boxes for what we want.

“At the moment it’s just an opportunity to take a look at him and that’s what we’re doing.”

Hector, 30, is a free agent after leaving Fulham at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Wednesday have also been linked with a loan move for Burnley defender Luke McNally and Moore added: “He’s another one that’s been circulated and has been linked with us and I can see why people would put two and two together with that one, knowing it’s a potential area we’re looking at.”

Speaking on transfer window targets overall, the manager said: “There’s nothing close at the moment in terms of people coming in. There’s always one eye on what’s out there. Everyone is looking to strengthen and we’re no different.

“What I’m concerned with is the depth of the squad. Any more injuries would leave us really short so come the end of the window, we do need to strengthen if it’s possible.”
