James sidelined as Owls suffer another injury blow

Reece James will be sidelined for a few weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage at Wycombe last Saturday.

It’s the latest in a series of defensive setbacks for Wednesday while George Byers, who was also stretchered off at Wycombe, is rated no better than 50-50 for tomorrow’s visit of Fleetwood after picking up a bruised foot injury.

Darren Moore said: “Reece is going to be out for a few weeks. He sustained ankle ligament damage.

“It’s disappointing because of the versatility that he brings us. But it’s how we respond to this and move forward.

“George Byers is 50-50 for the Fleetwood game. We don’t expect him to be out too long, it all depends on his discomfort. It’s bruising on his foot and it’ll be down to the player.”

Barry Bannan is back in training after his muscle problem but is not ready to return to competitive action.

We go into the match on the back of a 14-match unbeaten run and in second-placed in the division one table, three points behind leaders Plymouth and with a game in hand, and four points ahead of Ipswich in third.

Wednesday won 2-1 at Fleetwood on Boxing Day and the visitors sit in 17th place.

Leaders Plymouth entertain Cheltenham tomorrow while Ipswich travel to Oxford.
