Darren Moore talked of “a great three points” for Wednesday after tonight’s 2-0 win over Port Vale took us joint level with second-placed Ipswich.
The manager said afterwards: “The way we kept the ball was exceptional. We stayed resolute throughout, we did our job tonight and it’s a great three points.”
Mark McGuinness turned in an outstanding performance at the back while Michael Smith grabbed the headlines with his two goals, Moore saying: “I’m pleased for Michael because he’s worked hard for us and got his reward this evening. His second goal was excellent.”
The only downside of the evening came when skipper Barry Bannan was subbed on 26 minutes after pulling up with what looked like a possible recurrence of his recent hamstring problem.
Moore said: “I don’t know if it’s a recurrence of his injury or whether it’s a different one.
“I’ve not seen him and my head’s totally been in the game on getting three points. I’ve not even spoken to the medical team so we don’t know whether it’s his ankle, thigh, hamstring – I couldn’t tell you. But we’ll assess him in the morning.”
