Midfield pair join Wednesday on loan in transfer deadline day deals

Wednesday have strengthened our midfield with the transfer deadline day loan signings of two players with plenty of Championship experience.

Jeff Hendrick, pictured, has joined from Newcastle, the 31-year-old having played more than 400 games with the majority in the second tier, along with 79 caps for the Republic of Ireland.

He began his career with Derby, making almost 200 appearances, before spending four years at Burnley and then moving to Newcastle where he has also had loan spells at QPR and Reading.

Joining Hendrick on loan at S6 is John Buckley from Blackburn Rovers, although there is a clause in his deal giving Rovers the option to recall him to Ewood Park in January.

Twenty-three-year-old Buckley, who has already made more than 100 appearances for Rovers, scored twice for them in their 8-0 Carabao Cup win over Harrogate on Tuesday evening … having hit his first senior goal for the club against Wednesday.

He also knows Barry Bannan and told swfc.co.uk: “He really sold the club to me and the same with the manager.

“I like his style of play and his principles that really suit me as I’m a creative player who likes to get on the ball and make things happen.”

Both players are not eligible to play at Leeds but will be available to face Ipswich after the international break.
