Milan Mandaric has given his support to Dave Jones after Wednesday’s sorry start to the season.
As the Owls prepare to face local rivals Doncaster at Hillsborough on Saturday – still seeking our first win of the season – chairman Mandaric has told the Sheffield Star: “I know when things are going wrong people look at the manager. I do think Dave needs the time. He needs to sort out the players. We have to give him support.
“I don’t like to change a lot. I like stability and to work things out.”
Mandaric and Jones had a lengthy meeting yestersday to talk about possible new signings and Mandaric has confirmed that we will be looking to bring in one or two new strikers … either during this week or next.
He added: “We appreciate the fans’ support. We also have to be patient. It hurt me big time when I saw those loyal supporters at Birmingham and we couldn’t deliver.
“I firmly believe we have good players. I ask them to be brave and turn things around. I am confident they will – they all know how important it is to the supporters.”
One striker who won’t be joining Wednesday – in the near future at least – is long-time target Billy Sharp. He has today signed a loan deal with Reading, and his former manager Nigel Adkins, which keeps him there until January.
