Wednesday wait to see if Lucas Joao is fit to return for tomorrow night’s Capital One Cup second round tie with Oxford … after the young striker earned a call-up to the Portugal senior squad.
He missed the Leeds game with a hamstring injury but may be ready to take his place in the Owls squad as we look to make the third round of the competition at Hillsborough.
Joao has also been named in Portugal’s provisional squad for their friendly with France on September 4 and Euro qualifier three days later in Albania. He will find out on Friday if he has been included in head coach Fernando Santos’ final squad.
Carlos Carvalhal said he had no injury news today with regard to Keiren Westwood (kidney), Glenn Loovens (foot) and Joao after all three missed the Leeds game through injury.
Stevie May is reported to have scored two goals today in a training game with Chesterfield and he could force his way into the squad for the Oxford tie, after failing to figure in the first team line-ups so far this season.
