Danny Rohl was happy to see Wednesday take a first Championship point on the road this season in a goalless draw at Bristol City tonight.
It was hardly a classic, with the home side managing just two shots on target – which was one more than the Owls managed – Rohl saying afterwards: “It was a hard-working point to get something tonight.
“They were the better team in the first half. We came more into it in the second half, we pressed better with more calmness on the ball. All-in-all, we take our first point on the road and a clean sheet away from home is always a good sign.”
After a promising opening few minutes from Wednesday, the home side dominated in a low-key first half and James Beadle had to pull off two good saves in the opening 45 minutes, diving full length to save at the foot of the post when a cross deflected goalwards off Marvin Johnson and the keeper then kept out a header from the unmarked Anis Mehmeti.
Jason Knight headed over midway through the second half when allowed space in the six-yard box before Barry Bannan shot across goal and wide after being set up by Olaf Kobacki.
The 80-minute mark saw our first effort on target when home keeper Max O’Leary comfortably caught Michael Smith’s header, which lacked power, and then Beadle saved in added time from Mark Sykes to preserve our clean sheet and a point.
The draw sees us still in 19th place, on eight points from eight games, and Rohl said he would wait for updates on Liam Palmer and Olaf Kobacki who were both forced off through injury, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Coventry.
