Injured pair could return for league opener

Sam Hutchinson and Jack Hunt could be in contention for starting places for our Championship opener against Aston Villa at Hillsborough on Sunday after suffering pre-season injuries.

Recent signing Almen Abdi is also expected to be pushing for a place in the starting line-up.

Meanwhile, Tom Lees is reported to have been offered a new deal to keep him at Hillsborough. With Premier League Burnley one of a clutch of clubs being linked with a move for Lees, we are said to be ready to increase the defender’s salary to £25,000 a week to lengthen his stay at S6.

This follows the news that keeper Keiren Westwood has agreed an extension to his current contract, taking his agreement to the summer 0f 2019.

Both players are set to be in action for the televised league opener against relegated Villa and, with the visitors having sold out their 4,500 allocation, we are expecting a 30,000-plus crowd.
