Wednesday moved to within three points of second-placed Ipswich after a 4-2 win over Burton Albion at Hillsborough this afternoon.
With Ipswich scoring twice in added time to lead 4-2 at Charlton and then still conceding two goals themselves to draw 4-4, we gained two points on them.
Leaders Plymouth are now four points ahead of us but with a game in hand – that being a West Country derby at home to Exeter on Monday evening.
We were four-up with 15 minutes left against Burton thanks to a cracker from Barry Bannan after 21 minutes, a Michael Smith penalty soon afterwards, followed by an excellent long-range strike by Malik Wilks in the second half and another from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Ex-Owl Sam Winnall pulled a goal back soon afterwards, then Lee Gregory hit the bar with a penalty before Burton grabbed a second goal through Tom Hamer.
