Darren pays tribute to club legend Megson

Darren Moore paid tribute to Don Megson this afternoon after news of his passing reached the club earlier today.

Don, who played for Wednesday from joining as a youngster in 1952 until leaving Hillsborough in 1970, died aged 86.

He was the club’s regular left back throughout the sixties, became captain and skippered the side when we lost the 1966 FA Cup final 3-2 to Everton.

Son Gary also played for the Owls and managed the club and current boss Moore said of Don Megson’s passing: “It’s sad news, really sad news. He is a club legend.

”I speak partly from a personal element of my connection with Gary, having been his manager at West Brom.

“I send heartfelt condolences and I speak on behalf of myself and everyone connected with Sheffield Wednesday. Don was a true legend and a wonderful servant to this football club.”
