Danny’s call to the fans as Wednesday face six-pointer at S6

Wednesday face a real Hillsborough six-pointer tomorrow as the battle to keep our Championship status enters the final straight.

Following the gutsy fightback from the Owls to earn a 2-2 home draw with play-off chasing Norwich on Tuesday, relegation rivals Stoke come to S6 in another ‘must-win’ for ourselves, the Potters three points ahead of us but on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Swansea on Wednesday evening.

After the Norwich draw and with the midweek results of the other strugglers largely going in our favour, we sit in 22nd on 43 points, only in the relegation places on goal difference, and five points adrift of Plymouth in 16th after their 1-0 win over Leicester this evening.

Despite their victory tonight, Plymouth are one of seemingly eight clubs still in the scrap to avoid the two remaining spots in the bottom three … the Pilgrims now with three games to play and the remaining seven having four matches left.

The other sides in the fight for survival – including ourselves and Stoke – are all in action tomorrow. Blackburn have a lunchtime kick off at Leeds, Birmingham in 23rd entertain Coventry, Huddersfield are away to Bristol City, Millwall host Cardiff and QPR travel to Hull.

With the expectations of a 31,000 crowd, Danny Rohl has asked supporters to bring “only positive energy” to Hillsborough for the Stoke clash, adding: “It was a massive reaction from our team against Norwich and to take the point was important.

“But now it is about making the next points against Stoke. This is the key moment, otherwise the point on Tuesday was just a point. But if we can take the points on Saturday, then it is a huge step forward.

“At the moment we feel very strong, we look just to ourselves, to our performance, to our results and if we do our homework then we will have a great chance.

“In some bad moments, maybe some people felt we are finished but we rise and come back again. In these ups and downs we try to find the right solutions, it is always a good reaction from my team, my players with how they fight.

“This is the spirit we need from the last four games.”

Rohl said the injured trio of Di’Shon Bernard, Ike Ugbo and Marvin Johnson could be in contention to return to the squad to face Stoke but the indications are that Ian Poveda will continue to be absent with his muscle problem.
