Danny reflects on draw … need for clean sheets … Ugbo penalty

Danny Rohl reiterated his call for Wednesday to start chalking up clean sheets after more poor defending in the 2-2 draw with Millwall.

We again looked susceptible at set pieces and other crosses into the box and, while he was pleased with our attacking display, the Owls boss said afterwards: “I am happy with the offensive part of our game but we concede too many goals and 10 from the last four games is not good enough.

“It is not just as a team but individual decision-making and mistakes. If we want to achieve more this is the key.

“Millwall’s first goal was from a free kick from 60 yards out, not really a dangerous situation, and for the second one we don’t follow their men, we just stand and look. We have to have the right mentality to defend these situations.

“We entertain but at the moment but we entertain too much. It could be a boring 1-0 win and I am happy.

“I’m more disappointed about the two goals conceded than the penalty miss. For me it is about the defence at the moment and this is what we need to improve as soon as possible

“To win games it is about clean sheets. We should have won this game but we didn’t and today we missed a big, big opportunity.”

On the decision for Ike Ugbo to take the penalty, ahead of Josh Windass, Rohl said it came from the players who wanted to support Ugbo as the striker searches to end his goal drought this season.

Ugbo missed the spot kick, which would have taken us into a 2-0 lead, and Rohl explained: “I think there was a feeling with the players and inside the stadium that Ike was going to take it and of course hopefully score.

“If he scored, everyone would have been talking about this great opportunity, the togetherness of the players and the fans.

“But he missed and these things happen in football. I would not say it turned the game because even at 2-0 there is no guarantee you are going to win the match.

“He played a good game but now everyone is just looking at that single moment. We have to all stick together as a group and we will help him.”

Both Dominic Iorfa and Yan Valery had to leave the action through injury in the second half and Rohl said they would be having scans to find out the extent of the problems.
