Danny on latest home defeat … and Bannan injury update

Danny Rohl was left frustrated and disappointed after watching his Wednesday squad slump to a fifth successive home defeat in today’s 1-0 reverse against an Oxford side battling for Championship survival.

The Owls boss called the result a “massive disappointment”.

He added: “I think we have lost a little something since we’ve been out of a chance of the play-offs but we have four games to go and we must be better.

“Today’s result hurts at the moment. Oxford are a team strong on set pieces, second balls, and they have got their winning goal like this.

“I felt after 70 minutes or so they had a lot of momentum, they pushed forward in numbers. The games we have lost at home this year are very similar, it is the same story, we are losing by close margins.

“But it is my responsibility to find the solution and this is what we will try to do.”

Rohl also explained that Barry Bannan missed the Oxford game because of an ankle injury, the same problem that saw the skipper unable to take part in the warm-up at Blackburn on Tuesday and then having to settle for a place on the Ewood Park bench.

He apparently had an injection on Friday and Rohl explained: “It does not look good. He has pushed his football in the last 17 months on a very, very high level. He played nearly every game and there maybe comes a point now where the body is asking for some rest.”
