Chairman Dejphon Chansiri has ended speculation over the future of head coach Carlos Carvalhal by giving him an extended contract.
Carvalhal was linked with the vacant Swansea job earlier in the season and was then seemingly misreported by the press in his home country of Portugal recently. Articles said that Carvalhal could move into the Premier League with another club next season if Wednesday failed to get promotion but he quickly rubbished the stories.
Mr Chansiri, who appointed Carvalhal last summer and has seen the head coach steer us into the play-off places, confirmed the contract extension on Monday evening, saying: “I am delighted that Carlos will be staying with Sheffield Wednesday. I am sure our supporters will also welcome this news as Carlos has led a complete overhaul of the style football we play, particularly at Hillsborough.
“The brief was for the team to play exciting, aggressive and entertaining football, which has been delivered.”
Carvalhal’s backroom staff have also extended their current contracts at the club.
