Cadamarteri expected to make squad for Rotherham derby

Young striker Bailey Cadamarteri could well be in the Wednesday squad for Sunday lunchtime’s derby clash with Rotherham at Hillsborough.

The 18-year-old has caught the eye with his goalscoring form for the under-21s this season, while the first team have failed to hit the net in our last six games, and manager Danny Rohl confirmed today that he is considering naming Cadamarteri in the matchday squad to face the Millers.

Callum Paterson is also fit to return, if selected, after missing the midweek defeat at Plymouth.

We go into the Rotherham clash without a win in our first 13 Championship games of the season and 11 points from safety after gaining just three points so far. That gap that could get wider after Saturday’s matches and it’s almost a ‘must-win’ for Wednesday, even at this stage of the season.

Rohl said of Cadamarteri at Friday’s press conference: “He was in the training session today. It’s important he’s closer and closer to the squad and he could be an option for the weekend for us.”

Speaking about the game against Rotherham, who are six points ahead of us in 22nd place, Rohl said: “I am looking forward to my first match at Hillsborough. Everybody is ready for the game.

“It’s an important match for the team and also for the fans. It’s a derby, we want to win and to get a first victory at home.

“I like derbies like this and we can create a special energy in the stadium. I’m convinced we can do a great job on Sunday.

“We know the points gap is big at the moment but I am convinced if the process is right then the results will come. Hopefully, this will start on Sunday with a good result.”
