Palmer ruled out of Championship opener

Liam Palmer is the only definite absentee from the Wednesday squad for Saturday’s Championship opener at Preston.

Palmer is ruled out with an Achilles problem but Glenn Loovens (hamstring) and Kieran Lee (calf) are both in contention for the Deepdale challenge.

After a close season of little transfer movement and the delayed launch of a new kit in our 150th year, Carlos Carvalhal issued a rallying call to the fans today, saying: “This is a time to focus on the Championship and the things more important.

“It’s not the time to talk too much about kits, players we don’t have and players that we wish.

“It’s time to talk about the players that we have, it’s time to talk about the confidence of the team and the things very important.”

He added: “We need all of us, and I mean me, my staff, the players and the fans to do that little bit more. If all of us do a little more in comparison to last season, we can achieve a better position.”

The Owls will be backed by a sellout travelling support of just under 6,000 fans at Preston on Saturday.
