Josh Windass spoke about his brilliant strike from inside the Wednesday half, just 16 minutes after coming on as a sub against Derby on New Year’s Day, saying: “As soon as I saw their keeper off the line I knew I could reach the goal so it was just a matter of getting the technique right … and I did.”
It was also the striker’s 50th goal for Wednesday and Windass added: “I’ve been chasing the tally for a while so hopefully I can now get to 60 before the end of year.”
Danny Rohl said of the goal: “I have not seen too many goals like this and for me it was outstanding. One I can remember that is similar is Josh’s goal at Blackburn last season.
“Today was a special goal and I am really pleased for Josh. He is a quality player.”
On the overall Wednesday display in a 4-2 win, Rohl said: “It is a good start to the new year with four nice goals but it’s also about clean sheets and that’s what we have to improve as a group.
“At 4-1 up, we needed to control the game and bring the result home but we were a little bit too lazy from our side.
“This is what we need to improve but overall I am happy with the points and our place in the table
“All in all, I am happy today, we have 36 points which is fantastic compared to this stage last season. But we must keep improving.”
