Dave Jones’ managerial future at Hillsborough hangs by the thinnest of threads after yet another defeat this afternoon – this time 2-0 at Blackpool.
It leaves us with just one win in 16 games, joint bottom of the table with Barnsley and six points from safety.
Jones had called for more fight from the Wednesday team and he got that to some degree in the first half. After falling behind to a seventh minute goal from Ricardo Fuller, the Owls dominated the rest of the half and missed three excellent chances – from Connor Wickham, Jose Semedo and, best of all, from Jeremy Helan.
Semedo had another good opportunity after the break but Wednesday, who looked shaky at the back for much of the game, conceded again when Dan Gosling fired home on 73 minutes to seal the points.
This third successive defeat heaps even more pressure on Jones – and on chairman Milan Mandaric – with many Wednesday fans chanting for Jones to go towards the end of the game.
