Dave Jones pointed to mistakes costing Wednesday points after Friday night’s disappointing 3-0 defeat at Brighton.
The Owls boss said: “At the moment we are making too many mistakes and they are costing us … they are basic errors and players have got to dig in and do better than what they are at the moment.
“There`s not a great deal in it. It`s a fine line, but we are making wrong decisions in vital areas.”
Msrk Beevers, playing at left back against the Seagulls, allowed himself to be beaten near the corner flag and the ensuing cross led to Brighton’s crucial second goal, while Will Buckley’s run was not picked up as he burst through to complete the home side’s convincing 3-0 win.
Jones left out full backs Lewis Buxton and Daniel Jones at Brighton, after their errors led to both goals in the defeat at Crystal Palace. New signing Martin Taylor made his debut in the centre of defence, with Beevers moving to left back, and Joe Mattock replaced Buxton.
The Owls boss will be looking to the side to bounce back as they now have two home games in four days – entertaining Huddersfield on Wednesday and then facing relegated Bolton at S6 on Saturday.
The injured Anthony Gardner may come into contention for a recall to the defence if fit to return and Jones has to decide whether to make changes up front. Loanee Jay Bothroyd looked short of match practice on his debut at Brighton and Chris O’Grady will feel himself unfortunate to have missed out on a starting place.
Everton’s Ross Barkley, who came on as sub at Brighton, could be on from the start against Huddersfield after joining on a month’s loan.
