Neil Thompson has been pleased with Covid-hit Wednesday’s return to training as we prepare for Sunday evening’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Everton.
The coronavirus outbreak interrupted our improved form of four wins in the last five games, causing the postponement of Championship matches against fellow strugglers Wycombe and Coventry, but the squad have been back in training in recent days in preparation for the cup trip to Goodison Park.
Caretaker boss Thompson said: “Obviously it was very restrictive early on in terms of what we could do but the players have come back in and we have had a really good week’s training.
“I have had a great response from the players and coaching staff in terms of their attitude. We have tried to get everyone together and get everyone in the best possible condition that we can.”
Thompson will make late decisions regarding the fitness of some of the Covid-affected players, along with one or two of our previously-injured squad.
Recent signing Andre Green could make his debut after impressing Thompson in training during the week, the stand-in boss saying: “Andre has come in and he has trained really well this week. He is certainly in the frame. He has shown a good attitude. I like what I have seen.”
On the tie itself, Thompson said: “We have had a little bit of time where we have not played so everyone is chomping at the bit to get going and Everton is a great challenge for us. They are a Premier League team and everyone is looking forward to it.”
The tie is live on BT Sport and is an 8pm kick off.
