Wednesday take on play-off rivals in S6 clash

Wednesday’s push for a possible Championship play-off place continues tomorrow with the visit of an in-form Coventry to Hillsborough.

Our single goal midweek win at Swansea lifted us into eighth place, just two points behind West Brom who currently occupy the final play-off spot in sixth position.

With a 14-point gap between Sunderland in fourth and Blackburn in fifth, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will take those last two play-off places with only seven points separating West Brom on 47 from Preston in 15th.

We go into tomorrow’s game with Coventry without Di’Shon Bernard, who had successful surgery on Thursday on the knee injury sustained at West Brom last weekend, while Barry Bannan continues to be monitored after missing the last two matches through injury.

Bernard, pictured after his operation, is likely to be out for six months but said on social media: ‘Surgery was a success and I would like to thank the surgeons, doctors and nurses. I appreciate all the kind messages from you guys. BigDish will be back soon!!’

Coventry have won five of their last six games and are in 10th place, just a point behind Wednesday.

* Meanwhile, that spectacular goal from well inside his own half by Josh Windass against Derby at S6 on New Year’s Day has, not unexpectedly, been voted the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month for January … following Barry Bannan winning the award in December.
