Wednesday have signed Swansea City’s experienced defender Ricardo Santos for an undisclosed fee.

He has agreed a one-year contract, with a club option of a further 12 months.

The 31-year-old has made more than 400 senior appearances, including 189 in League One where he will be turning out for the Owls in the upcoming season.

Santos said of his move to S6: “Once I got the call from my agent telling me that Sheffield Wednesday was a possibility, I told him, make sure you get this done.

“There’s so much I can say about the club. The support just drags players in. The fans are unbelievable, plus the manager’s energy and his ambitions. The club struggled last year and had its problems, but all of that is over now – as you can see by how many season tickets we’ve sold. Joining at this time, there is no better feeling for me.”

Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, added: “Ricardo is a player we know well and someone with a strong track record of performing at the top end of League One. He brings important leadership qualities, having captained Bolton during his four seasons at the club, and his experience will be valuable to the group.”

Santos signed for Peterborough in 2014, playing 75 games in three seasons with Posh, before making 91 appearances for Barnet and then joining Bolton in 2020. He  was an integral part of the Bolton team that won promotion to League One in 2021 and his performances saw him move to Swansea last summer, also being called up for Cape Verde.
