Wednesday legend Alan Finney has passed away at the age of 91.
Winger Finney joined the Owls ground staff as a 15-year-old straight from school and was to go on to make a remarkable 504 appearances for the club, scoring 88 goals.
His debut came aged 17 against Chelsea in 1951 and his final appearance for the Owls was versus Leeds on New Year’s Day in 1966.
During that time, he helped Wednesday to three Division Two championships, in 1952, 1955 and 1959, and played every game in the 1960-61 season when we finished runners-up in Division One to the Spurs double-winning side.
Alan also sits in third place on the club’s all-time appearance list, behind Andrew Wilson (546) and Jack Brown (507).
On the international stage, he played three times for England under-23s and made one appearance for the England B team.
The thoughts and sympathies of the London Owls are with Alan’s family at this extremely sad time.
