Danny Rohl spoke of his pride at the squad’s development after the curtain came down on our Hillsborough campaign for the season in today’s 1-1 draw with Portsmouth.
With just one match to play, at Watford next Saturday lunchtime, Rohl said of the performance against Pompey: “This game was once again like a mirror of the second half of our season.
“We controlled the game, had more ball possession and more shots while our opponent has two shots, one on target and that is their goal.”
But, looking at the wider picture of the season, he added: “It is not about analysing the game today. We should be proud of our players and how we have helped improve them.
“For me, no longer are we the underdog. This time, we will finish in the middle of the table when last time we were fighting for our lives.
“This is a sign of the progress we have made and how the players have developed. We no longer think about the bottom of the table, we are looking up.
“We have one more game to go and should be proud of our development this season. All in all, we should take all the positive things from the season.”
With the Owls guaranteed a mid-table finish, whatever happens at Watford next Saturday, Rohl reflected on the on-the-field improvement at the club since he took charge – ironically away to Watford in October 2023 with Wednesday bottom of the Championship table – saying today: “To step forward from 24th position to 12th position would be fantastic.”
