Joint administrator, Kris Wigfield, has today published the following update statement:
‘Sheffield Wednesday can confirm that the EFL’s Independent Club Financial Review Panel (CFRP) has now concluded its disciplinary review into historic financial breaches that occurred prior to the appointment of administrators. The earlier six‑point deduction covered matters up to 9 July 2025 and the latest review assessed the period from 10 July 2025 to the date of administration.
We welcome the CFRP’s decision not to apply a further points deduction. We appreciate the constructive engagement throughout what has understandably been a challenging period. This conclusion provides much‑needed certainty and allows us to focus fully on stabilising the Club and planning for the future.
We recognise that this season has tested the patience of our supporters. Transparency remains our priority, and we hope that drawing a clear line under these matters enables everyone to concentrate on supporting the team.
I also want to update you on the sales process. We understand the frustration caused by limited communication at this stage, but periods of confidentiality are essential to protect the integrity of the process. Work continues behind the scenes as we work toward identifying a preferred bidder and genuine progress is being made. Once that stage is reached, the EFL will need to complete its regulatory checks.
We will provide updates as soon as we are able to do so without jeopardising the process. Thank you, as always, for your continued backing. On behalf of everyone at Sheffield Wednesday and Begbies Traynor, I would like to wish our supporters a Merry Christmas and, for the Football Club, a much brighter New Year.’
